With the amount of stress most of us have in our day-to-day lives, this environment acts almost as an extinguisher for the freshness and fire we bring home from a workshop.
But remember being four? Or watching four year olds play? The world around them is fresh ? everything they encounter is a cause for wonder. Bang! The evil dragon! Along comes an obstacle? Pow! The dragon gets a magical superpower and crushes the obstacle! They?re constantly creating. It?s the workshop high: seeing through the eyes of the unknown.
For most people, 99% of life is about reacting to how it is not okay now
In contrast, many of us in our lives are getting the most out of life by working on ?How.? We look at our lives, find fault with them in some ways, and react by coming up with ways to fix the faults. When we achieve the changes, we get moments of gratification, or relief, from how it is. And somehow we string together these moments of gratification frequently and close together enough that we almost feel satisfied. This ?getting the most out of life? is a consuming activity. There?s no energy added, no fresh.
So when you do take a program and make those breakthroughs, and get that high that comes from seeing things through fresh eyes, it?s your same, consumer-patterned life you have to return to. And it challenges you! The joy of creating takes on an element of struggle. You?re applying. Trying. Trying to get ?there.?
